EXTRA OLD ST. LUCIA RUM

The Barnard family first settled in Saint Lucia in the 1930's and established their distillery by making rum from the molasses produced by the islands massive sugar plantations. Due to the rise of the European sugar beet, the local sugar industry was forced into extinction. With few choices remaining, the last two distilleries formed a joint venture and consolidated their operations to the picturesque Roseau Valley, creating what is known today as St. Lucia Distillers.

Admiral Rodney is one of the world's finest rums. Made from 100% still rums, Admiral Rodney is St. Lucia distillers flagship in terms of age and complexity. The rum commemorates the English Admiral George Rodney who famously "broke the line" and vanquished the French fleet at the Battle of the Saints in 1782. As further stocks of aged rum come on line they are adding older rums into the blend. Currently the Admiral Rodney blend averages 12 years and they are intending to get to an average age of 15 years in the coming years.

During 2009 Admiral Rodney won Gold at the International World Spirits Competition in Germany and the Rum Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge.

Nose: On the nose, rich honeyed fruit with prunes, sweet raisins and well integrated oak toast.

Palate: On the palate concentrated, complex with velvety caramel 'creme brûlée' and hints of vanilla, spice and chocolate. Well balanced and harmonious with an exceptionally long finish.
