michel chignard has been a great friend since he was let down by an english wine importer who didn't deliver on his promises, which is when we had the great fortune of finding michel over twenty years ago. his wines have improved vintage on vintage now consistently scoring 10 with our tasters. michel is the fifth generation of his family to produce top quality fleurie and is now passing on his skills to cédric, his son, who seems likely to follow in his forefathers' footsteps as, for the last few vintages, he too has been passionately involved in all aspects of the winemaking process. michel and cédric have 8ha of vines in fleurie along the border of Moulin à vent. the grapes are hand harvested with care to keep the bunches of gamay whole. the winery is very traditional and allows the wine to ferment for 6 days before pressing to allow the unique characteristic of inter-cellular fermentation to occur. the wines produced have an upfront fruity nose that continues on the palate, and great structure.
fleurie 2006
union viticole du Beaujolais, 1st place fleurie 2006
m. chignard - Beaujolais winemaker of the year 2007 in wine behind the label
rated by steven spurrier as "by far the best of the wine guides" "there probably isn't any better fleurie than that from michel chignard. his wines
manage to be ripe, full and intense with rich textures that offer immediate
gratification but have ripe structure and substance to improve over several years." p. Williamson and d. moore, wine behind the label
