FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2019 CHAIRMAN’S RESERVE MAI TAI COMPETITION

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Mai Tai and the 20th anniversary of Chairman’s Reserve Rum, award-winning St. Lucia Distillers and Emporia Brands are proud to announce the four finalists who will be heading to London and be in for the chance to win a trip of a lifetime to St. Lucia.

Circle Lounge (Halifax), Milk (Reading), Twisted Lemon (Brighton) and London Cocktail Club (Shaftesbury London) have topped the UK leader boards and will be heading to London Cocktail Club’s Old Street venue on the 25th September 2019. Each have earnt their way to the final by promoting their twist on Vic Bergeron, aka “Trader Vic”, and his Mai Tai recipe, selling and promoting their serve during the months of July and August.

Points were awarded for the drink itself, innovative events such as Chairman’s Reserve Mai Tai parties taking place in accounts in Brighton, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Leicester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and many more cities throughout the UK as well as dedicated social media campaigns that engaged with their venue audience.

The final, the 4th to be held since the campaign inauguration in 2016, will see each finalist show off their Mai Tai recipe to a packed venue within their own dedicated bar space over the course of the evening. Attendees will be able to vote for their favourite Mai Tai of the evening, plus a selection of VIP judges will be musing their own thoughts, with the bar receiving the most votes announced the winner and receiving a trip for 2 to St. Lucia in March 2020, joining previous winners Alvino’s (Newcastle), Milk (Reading) and Café Pacifico (London).

The Chairman’s Preserve (Twisted Lemon, Brighton): 37.5ml Chairman’s Reserve Original, 15ml Chairman’s Reserve White, 20ml fresh lime, 10ml Orgeat, salt, 30ml pineapple passionfruit mango and nutmeg shrub.

Boozy Little Mistress (London Cocktail Club, London): 30ml Chairman’s Reserve Original, 20ml Chairman’s Reserve White, 20ml Framboise, 15ml Pierre Ferrand Curacao, 20ml orange and almond sherbet, 20ml fresh lime, 2 dashes black walnut bitters and 5ml Orgeat.

Diamond of Dennery (Milk, Reading): 30ml Chairman’s Reserve Spiced, 15ml Chairman’s Reserve Original, 25ml fresh lime, 30ml Milk Spiced Mix No.5, 2 dashes of peach bitters and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Mountain High Mai Tai (Circle Lounge, Halifax): 25ml Chairman’s Reserve Original, 25ml Coconut infused Chairman’s Reserve Spiced, 15ml home-made Chairman’s banana falernum, 30ml fresh lime, 25ml doughnut syrup topped with banana meringue and toasted coconut.

Chairman’s Reserve was first blended in 1999, overseen by then Chairman, Laurie Barnard, as a special project to create a fine quality rum that can represent the iconic style of St. Lucian rum.
